Pastor John & Lynne Jones

John Jones and Lynn.jpg

John and Lynne were married in September 1976. They spent four years living in Canada where John worked as a machine tool designer. They returned to the UK in late 1982.

On 2nd July 1984 they were invited by a work colleague of John’s to go to a ‘Mission England’ evangelistic event being held at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham. This was part of the series of crusade meetings being organised by Billy Graham. At this event, both John and Lynne committed their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The first church that they became involved with was an Assemblies of God church in Lichfield, Staffordshire. Whist there John began to be used to both preach and to lead worship. Experience in both preaching/teaching and also leading worship in several further churches added to this. However, John knew that it would be to the word of God that his main calling would be. This would come to fruition in 1996 when he made a commitment to attend a Bible College.

After a total of five years of study at the Midlands Bible College in Wolverhampton, John gained a Diploma in Pastoral Studies and also a Cambridge Certificate in theology. He and Lynne then spent almost two years co-pastoring, with another couple, the small chapel there and then John spent a year as Director of Evangelism teaching residential students there.

In 2004 after spending some time as nursing auxiliaries in Wolverhampton, John and Lynne felt called to sell their home and move to Southern Spain and build a pioneer church. After a difficult 19 months they were invited to return to England to join another couple in starting a small work in Worcestershire.

In 2007 though, the Lord led them to a connection in Israel where John and Lynne then spent 18 months both living and working at a Messianic work. That is until a freak accident caused John and Lynne to make an unexpected return to the UK.

After several years of inactivity due to medical treatment for John’s injury, he and Lynne joined the congregation at the Barn Christian Fellowship in Droitwich, Worcestershire. In 2013 John was asked by the congregation to take on the role as Pastor of that fellowship, this continued until 2016.

After leaving the ‘Barn Fellowship, John focused upon posting regular sermons on his YouTube channel, gaining many subscribers and listeners.

This continued until John and Lynne were invited to move to Devon and take up the pastorate at Gerston Chapel in Paignton in 2024.

The vision John and Lynne have for ‘Gerston Chapel’ continues to be the same that has always driven them, that being a focus on sound Bible teaching and corporate prayer in order to develop a strong and stable congregation.
